hillbilly noir

The mystery begins

The signs are not good

Don't look in the fridge

Willits noir. So it begins. It does not look good. The pieces are everywhere. Don’t look in the fridge.

I know it’s the photographer who takes the picture, not the camera, but this Rollei is something special.

one is the loneliest number

mr roboto

lone tree

There are a lot of lonely people in our fair city. The loneliness is self-imposed, a bubble created by isolators stuffed in the ears as we smash onto the bus. I’ve always been a weird loner so when my quiet loner is facing the book hoards at the shop, I wander around the city with my camera, looking for lonely things.  Who was it that said that when in America, San Francisco is where all the loose nuts end up?

boston/new york, 2011

mystery new york

williamsburgh savings bank

I’m a California girl all the way, by which I mean San Francisco. I like my weather to be simple: 1 season only. But the other side of the country has its appeal. For one, it’s much older. Boston was historic and lovely, but I got a strange feeling of hostility. Pretty clear that I wasn’t welcome there.

New York, however, was awesome. The pace is too hectic for me now, but I can see a 20 year old me thriving there. I think New Yorkers get a bad rap because from what I saw, the locals go out of their way to help out the hapless tourists with maps & give detailed directions. People must confuse a low tolerance for flakiness as hostility.

Things fall apart here near the Pacific Ocean. Wood rots, metal rusts, paper curls. The shouting from my neighbors tell me that it happens to marriages, too. Life is decay, it’s more accelerated here.
